Dogs For Adoption

At Etobicoke Humane Society, we believe that every dog deserves a second chance. Our dogs have so much love to give with your help building their trust and confidence.

Each dog is unique, some love to explore the outdoors while some enjoy resting their heads in your lap while being pet. To find the dog best suited for you, your family lifestyle and other pets at home, we encourage potential adopters to review each available dog’s profile below. After reading the description and Adoption Criteria for the dog you are interested in, submit an application for that dog and one of our volunteers will contact you.

Our Special Dogs are also keen to meet you and show you how much love they have to give. We have invested in these dogs because we believe that with the right adopters, they can become happy family dogs. They are located on another page accessible from the link below.

Our Adoption Process

Review the Dog’s Profile and Adoption Criteria Carefully by Clicking on their Photo.

Click on the Dog’s Photo for more details and specific Adoption Criteria for that dog as well as its availability status. If you believe you meet the dog’s Adoption Criteria outlined and can provide a good home please fill out an Online Adoption Application for the dog if it is Available.

Fill Out an On-Line Adoption Application- Only permitted when the Dog is Available.

Once you find a dog that meets your criteria, we advise you to fill out an Online Adoption Application. We will only accept online applications when the dog’s status is Available and their name appears in the drop down list on the Online Adoption Application form. We cannot consider you if the dog’s status is Coming Soon, Application Closed or Adoption Pending or if the dog’s name does not appear on the Online Adoption Application form.

You will receive a confirmation email when we receive your application. Please apply for each dog you are interested in but do not apply multiple times for the same dog!

Once we receive applications, we prioritize processing those that meet the dog’s Adoption Criteria on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note that dogs, particularly puppies, are in high demand. We often receive so many applications we close their application very quickly.

The following steps take place for the first qualifying application and it is not until we determine we need to move on, that the next qualifying applicant will be contacted.
If you do not hear from us, we are processing a prior applicant.

Phone Interview/Reference Check

Once we have reviewed your application, an adoption coordinator will reach out to you via email to schedule a phone call to find out a little more about you and share more information about the dog. This conversation is a good opportunity for us to get a sense of whether the dog is a good match for you.

Meet and Greet

If we both agree that the dog is a good match for you, we will schedule an outdoor meeting for you to meet the dog. To ensure the safety of all parties involved, we will ask you to review our Covid-19 Procedures and complete our Covid-19 Screening Forms. Please come prepared with a mask and to observe our social distancing practices.

Virtual Home Visit

At this stage of the process, we will schedule a virtual home visit so you can walk us through where the dog will be spend the majority of its time.

Adoption

Once you have been approved to adopt we will finalize all documentation/payment electronically and schedule a date and time for you to pick up your new best friend.
