Volunteer at Etobicoke Humane Society

The Etobicoke Humane Society is run entirely by dedicated volunteers. Volunteer roles include animal care, adoption coordinators, foster care coordinators, office administration, fundraising, communications/marketing and more.

Volunteer requirements:

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to work with dogs. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age to work with cats. Volunteers 14-16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for all shifts
  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age for all other positions
  • We ask for a minimum six-month commitment for all volunteers
  • For in-person shelter positions proof of a current tetanus shot is required
  • We require proof of current vaccinations for personal pets
  • Must be available for an interview

Cat Volunteers

We're looking for people who are available for shifts, at least once per week, at the shelter:

  • Morning (8:30am-11:30am)
  • Afternoon (1-4pm)
  • Evening (6:30-9:00)

Dog Volunteers

Are you interested in joining our dedicated group of Dog Volunteers? 

We are currently accepting applications for responsible volunteers who are 18 years or older, can make a commitment to a regular weekly 3-hour shift (same shift each week) for at least 6 months, thrive in a team environment, have experience with larger dogs, willingness to learn and grow with us, and are physically capable of walking dogs and cleaning duties within the shelter.

Kindly note that at this time we will only be responding to applicants who are available to volunteer during the following time slots:

  • Weekday mornings (8:00am-11:00am)
  • Weekday afternoons (1:00pm-4:00pm)

Student Opportunities
EHS has visiting hours, only for cats who are at our shelter. Visiting hours are 2-6pm on Saturday & Sunday. If you'd like to adopt a cat or dog (including one of our special dogs), please apply online and one of our volunteers will contact you.
