Help An Animal In Need

We are in need of foster homes for both cats and dogs.

Summer can be a difficult time for finding foster homes as many people are going away on vacations and can’t commit to caring for an animal.

But it’s still a busy time for us as we continue taking in pets that need our help.

Fostering can be a great way to help out, without committing to pet ownership full-time. We provide training and all of the supplies you will need, including paying for vet bills.

Current foster home needs:

  • Cat Fosters: we especially need fosters that are willing to foster and socialize fearful cats, OR  have no other pets and are willing to foster cats with behavioural issues or medical issues. We provide training and ongoing support. If you have another pet at home, you must have a separate room for your foster cat (especially during the transition period). Please note that fosters should have access to a vehicle and be willing to transport a foster cat to and from vet appointments and/or the shelter as needed.

Dog fosters: We are looking for foster families with dog experience, no young children or pets and ideally homes with fully fenced yards.

Why we have certain requirements for dog fostering

We are often asked why we have so many requirements for fostering a dog. It’s important to understand that these are rescue dogs who often come from difficult situations and can be reactive to other dogs, people or noises, etc. Some have never been walked on a leash and others may have high prey drive. This can make going for walks difficult and stressful for the dog. Dogs with separation anxiety may be quite noisy, which could cause issues for people who share walls with their neighbours. We take all of this into consideration when placing a dog in a foster home.

EHS has visiting hours, only for cats who are at our shelter. Visiting hours are 2-6pm on Saturday & Sunday. If you'd like to adopt a cat or dog (including one of our special dogs), please apply online and one of our volunteers will contact you.
