As our kitten shower draws to a close, we thank each one of you for generously helping to provide the funds to rescue our families and solo kittens. Without your support over these past few weeks and throughout the year, we wouldn’t have been able to say “yes” when asked if we could help.
Our most recent "yes" is quite a story, involving a group of kind-hearted people and a brave young mama cat.
Introducing Melinda: This calico girl and five kittens were discovered in a commercial greenhouse. Suspicion is that she was dumped in the area and likely sought refuge indoors. The story is a bit murky as there seems to have been another female in the vicinity who had given birth at the same time. She subsequently disappeared and Melinda took over care for those newborns too.
The greenhouse operator reached out to a local rescue, which then contacted EHS once the little family was safely in their care. It really does take a village.
Once in EHS's custody, we discovered sweet Melinda was quite unwell requiring immediate veterinary attention. She had gone through so much—being abandoned, giving birth to two kittens, and then, in true supermom fashion, assuming responsibility for three vulnerable kittens. Melinda really is the hero here!
Thanks to a coordinated effort between our vet partners and experienced fosters, Melinda received the care and attention she required. Her health improved quite quickly and she was soon diligently catering to her now (natural and adopted) energetic kittens, all in the comfort of one of our loving foster homes.
Without these resources and the village of kind people, the outcome might have been very different. Your donations are instrumental in all aspects of our work, and thanks to you, we are able to say "yes!" and make the world a bit kinder for cats in need.
How your donations help
By Mother's Day, we raised $19,500 out of our $24,500 goal thanks to our generous supporters. All donations will go towards the care for all of the babies that need our help before they get adopted to their forever homes. So far, 18 of the 35 kittens and 1 of the 4 mama cats in our care have been adopted.
If you would like to donate towards the care of the remaining kittens and mama cats, or for the ones that will come into the fold inevitably, we thank you!
Looking to adopt one of our kittens? Kittens will be available for adoption when they’re 12 weeks old and have had their first two kitten vaccinations. Kittens less than six months old should be adopted in pairs or to a home with another cat.
The adoption fee for a single cat is $225 and $400 for a pair. For kittens under six months of age, the adoption fee is $300 for each kitten. This includes a baseline medical visit, spay/neuter, deworming, flea treatment, microchip and vaccines.
