From stray dogs in Taiwan to a pampered life on a farm

Sometimes we have dogs that come into our care that need some extra time before they’re ready to find their forever family. It’s often due to behaviour issues, possibly from a lack of training, or sometimes it’s due to having a bad experience in life.

When we get these cases, we make sure we do everything possible to make the dogs comfortable and we get them the attention and training they need in order to become ready for adoption.

One of our most challenging — and rewarding — cases is a bonded pair of dogs from Taiwan named Royal and Regal who were adopted three years ago after spending 525 days with EHS.

Royal and Regal were two sweet dogs who were fearful of new people due to their time living on the streets of Taiwan. We were determined to adopt them together because they were so bonded and Royal couldn’t cope without Regal. It can be difficult to find a home for a pair of dogs, but it was even more difficult in this case because Royal is a large dog who could be a bit intimidating.

We finally found the perfect match in March 2018, when Royal and Regal were adopted and went to live on a horse farm outside of the city. Their adopted mom is a patient and caring person who is very experienced with dogs. In addition, there was a doggie daycare and a dog trainer also living on the farm.

We’ve kept in touch with Royal and Regal since their adoption and one of our volunteers has visited them several times. We’re happy to report that they’re thriving and have shown so much growth from the time that they were scared of new people and other dogs.

Now they run and play and interact with other dogs. Royal has even learned to play catch. They’re still a bit fearful of new people, but don’t show the same reactions as before. They cuddle on the couch and even sleep in their mom’s bed.

This is a true success story and we’re very proud to see how well the dogs are doing. This was made possible due to the care of our volunteers who never gave up on finding the perfect home for Royal and Regal.
