Leaves in Fall

Happy Fall

We are so grateful to be welcoming the cooler season with all our animals well cared for by big-hearted fosters—and well fed by the enormous amount of food donations we’ve been thrilled to receive. Even though our physical shelter has been closed due to COVID-19, we remain on track to match our 2019 adoption rates for both cats and dogs. Our volunteers have been tremendous, with many moving into new roles in response to the shelter’s closure.

The bad news is that COVID-19 has limited our ability to raise money using our traditional events. But our amazing team has been busy designing some creative new approaches to fundraising. We’ve wrapped up our Give What You Can Campaign, which sought to help us recover some of the $85,000 shortfall we are experiencing this year from the loss of in-person events. We are deeply thankful for the financial support we have received and will have more information on how much we were able to raise once we crunch the numbers.

We’re now kicking off our Holiday Campaign. We hope to raise $95,000, which will allow us to continue to help high numbers of cats and dogs.

So what’s the plan going forward? At the moment, we do not have a timeline for reopening the shelter; the reopening remains subject to Public Health guidelines. Our priorities right now are keeping our volunteers safe and our animals in comfortable foster homes curling up in front of all the best fires and smelling all the good smells before the snow hits.

In the meantime, we are excited to share some insights for companion animal owners in this newsletter, including tips on welcoming a new dog into your home…something a bunch of us have been doing this year. We are also very pleased to announce the release of our 2019 Annual Report.

Again, we just cannot say thank you enough to you, our incredible community, for making EHS possible and for helping us take on this unprecedented year. We hope everyone enjoys the rest of Autumn!
