Change a Pet’s Life Day is celebrated annually on January 24th, a day to support and encourage the adoption of animals. The day is increasingly important from a shelter perspective. Here are some ways you can make a difference in a pet's life this year:
Of course, the ideal way to support the day from our perspective is to adopt a pet. Realistically, this may not be the best option for everyone. However, if you are in the market for a pet, consider heading to your local shelter to meet some animals up for adoption.
You may consider fostering if you are not ready for the commitment of a pet’s lifespan. Read more about fostering to see if it is the right option for you.
If you have some free time on your hands, you may consider spending some of that time doing something for others. Many animals come in as strays and have had no human interaction. Volunteers often help get them comfortable with people while completing their duties so the animals can move on to their new homes. Check out available volunteer opportunities at EHS.
Financial or in-kind donations are always welcome at EHS. Monetary donations and supplies are always needed to ensure our animals get the best care they can while they stay with us. Any donation is appreciated, but if you want to give something more specific, we have a wishlist for donations to EHS.
If you considered donating but think you can handle a bit more commitment, consider becoming a member of EHS. Membership includes a donation, which also gives you some special privileges. It allows you to elect the Board Members, attend General Meetings, and more responsibilities that help shape the organization.
An easy and free way to help out on Change a Pet’s Life Day (or any day) is to raise awareness for animal services like shelters. Spread the word! Most of us have access to social media or a circle of family and friends that you can share information with. Share posts by your favourite animal associations, engage with their posts to help amplify them and spread the word about ways others can get involved.
There are many ways to change a pet’s life, no matter how much you have to give. Every animal deserves a second chance to feel loved and cared for. EHS encourages you to do your part to get them exactly that. Happy Change a Pet’s Life Day!
