Limited visitation for cats. See Details HERE
Our cats and dogs are thriving since being moved into foster homes several weeks ago. We’re continuing to receive many heartwarming photos and stories of timid animals gaining confidence and enjoying time in their loving home environments. Although it’s reassuring to hear and see how well our animals are doing, we’re all missing the bustle of activity at the shelter.
On March 25, we had made the decision to pause adoptions for three weeks to do our part to flatten the curve. Our cat and dog leadership teams took that time to determine if it’s possible to introduce contactless intakes and adoptions so that EHS can continue to safely fulfill its mission, without reopening the shelter. After careful consideration, the Board has agreed to resume intakes and adoptions for cats and intakes for dogs. We expect to resume dog adoptions in the coming weeks We are very excited to be able to begin intakes and adoptions again as we know that pets are helping individuals and families manage the anxiety, boredom and loneliness that comes with self-isolation. Our applications for adoptions and fostering are at an all time high.
We’ll be carefully monitoring our processes to ensure the safety of our volunteers, fosters and adopters during this time. Please make sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for photos and updates on all of our pets!
Stay well!
Last week we made the decision to close the shelter to visitors to help reduce the risk of COVID-19. As the situation has evolved, we took the extraordinary step to move all of our shelter pets into temporary foster homes to help further reduce any risk to our volunteers.
It was a massive undertaking, but our dedicated network of supporters stepped up to open their homes to more than 27 cats and 4 dogs who are now settling in to their new digs. We want to recognize all of our volunteers for their hard work to make this possible. It was not easy, but they’ve come together to make sure our animals are taken care of during these extraordinary times.
Despite our current situation, our animals continue to be available for adoption. If you’re interested in any of our pets, you can fill out a cat adoption form or a dog adoption form and one of our volunteers will contact you to set up an appointment.
We’re still in need of donations as we continue to cover the costs of food, vet care and any other needs our cats and dogs have while they’re in foster. As always, any donations over $20 are eligible for a tax receipt.
And we are still accepting surrender applications for people who are no longer able to take care of their pets. The first step is to reach out to us through email at catintake@etobicokehumanesociety.com or dogs@etobicokehumanesociety.com.
