The Best Gift Is You

Here are some recent Student Volunteer Fundraisers held for EHS.

To learn more how you can participate, visit our student volunteer opportunities page.

Kingsway College School

Julian and his fellow students from Kingsway College School donated many much needed supplies and gift cards from our wish list. They held a creative fund drive in their grade four class for the dogs and cats at our shelter. All of us at EHS are very grateful for their kind-hearted efforts.

Mildenhall School

Kendra (Left) and Valentina (Right) from Mildenhall School dropped by our shelter with a cheque for $267.30 from a fundraiser they held for EHS! Thank you ladies! We hope they inspire you to help the animals in our care at your own school.

Sophia Trothen’s Dog Biscuit Fundraiser

By: Emma McGuigan, Student Volunteer Coordinator

In August 2020, 15 year old Sophia Trothen, who is an EHS student volunteer, launched her own dog biscuit business thoughtfully named “The Barepaw Contessa''. She sold her dog treats online and donated all profits to the Etobicoke Humane Society. Sophia focused on selling homemade, organic dog treats throughout the pandemic to her circle of family and friends.

Sophia spent lots of time testing her recipe to make it perfect with the help of some dog friends as testers. Her dog treat business grew through social media skills and a dedicated website. Sophie posted her business and cause to local facebook groups and orders started coming into her online website. The dog treat flavours included pumpkin and peanut butter and sold for $8 a bundle. After 9 months of fundraising, she managed to raise an impressive $560 for EHS!

Sophia is an avid baker and animal lover, making this experience very enjoyable. “As someone who is super passionate about animals and loves to bake, selling dog treats seemed like a no-brainer!” Sophia has since stopped selling the dog treats, but her contributions are still very much appreciated here at EHS! If you like to have more information about her dog biscuit business you can visit her website:
