German Shepherd, approximately 7-8 years old, 65 lbs
Cute, quirky and loveable!
Tascha came to EHS after her owner died unexpectedly, after being passed around to different homes, she was surrendered to EHS. When Tascha first joined her foster family, she was timid and quiet, in fact it took her about 3-4 months to be fully comfortable in the home and move around confidently. Now Tascha shows her true gentle and affectionate nature.
Her foster’s home has shared walls and a backyard that backs into a public park; she has learned to live with the busy environment and does well. However, she can be reactive with other dogs while out on a walk. Her foster has been working with her on this. When people come into the house, she will bark and it will take her a bit of time to calm down. Once she has met someone many times she will calm down right away.
What makes Tascha special?
Tascha has hip dysplasia and it is moderately severe. This is not uncommon in German Shepherds and this is being well managed with supplements and moderate exercise. As she ages, stairs may become a challenge, but right now she manages a few to get in and outside the home.
Tascha can easily become anxious; this anxiety manifests itself in her displaying minor behaviour quirks such as chasing her tail or whining. Routine is extremely important for Tascha, the same walking routes, the same people, etc. She does not want to go on adventures or explore new parks etc. Any change should be done very slowly.

TASCHA’S IDEAL HOME:
Tascha needs a calm, quiet environment with a regular routine
We think she will make a great companion for a single adult or couple
Tascha needs moderate physical activity every day and mental/enrichment games
No dogs or cats in the home
She is okay with children visiting but will not interact with them
A fully fenced yard so she can hang outside (one of her favourite activities)
A home with few stairs or room for Tascha to live on a main floor. She can manage a few stairs to go in and out but not much more than that.
Due to her hip dysplasia and arthritis, her new adopter will have to maintain a good weight, continue on supplements, medication and monthly injections
We believe that in the right home Tascha will do well and make a lovely companion!
