Irish is a lucky charm wrapped in a fur coat!

Meet Irish, the adorable polydactyl orange cat. Irish was found wandering the streets of Hamilton and brought to an over-crowded municipal shelter before landing at EHS. He was chipped and neutered, so he must have had an owner at some point. While we’re unsure of his past, we think the luck of the Irish is with this handsome boy (and his extra toes) as he awaits his forever home.

About Irish

  • At shelter
  • Irish has settled into shelter life, but he can still be timid at times.
  • Volunteers describe Irish as “friendly” and a “super sweet guy.”
  • He will actively seek out attention and affection from humans. He accepts pets by hand, especially to his head and cheeks. He will also let his toes (Oh, those toes!) be touched and will roll over for a belly rub.
  • Irish seems to be sensitive on his back and is unsure about being pet there. He has given a gentle swat (no claws) when his back is touched. No harm intended; he is just making his boundaries known.
  • Irish loves his naps and will often choose to nap during “out time” or return early to his kennel; snoozing can be a better choice than exploring, and we get that.
  • Volunteers report that Irish can look “a little sad” at times. Hey, Irish eyes can’t always be smiling, right boy?
  • He is a vocal cat who seems to have plenty to say. Is he recounting tales of the Emerald Isle?
  • Fun fact! Irish is a polydactyl cat, which means he has extra toes and looks like he is wearing little mittens. Polydactyl cats are also considered a symbol of luck.
  • Irish has started to show his playful side, engaging in some fun with a feather wand and toy mouse.
  • Irish is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, SNAP-tested for FIV/FeLV, and is up to date on core vaccinations.

Irish's Ideal Home

  • Irish must be the only cat in the home.
  • He will benefit from a calm, quiet environment without young children.
  • Irish’s compatibility with dogs is unknown.

Forget the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, the real treasure is the love of this charming boy. Why not come by the shelter today and see if those Irish eyes might just start to smile for you?
