Francesca needs a gentle heart (and a quiet home).

Meet Francesca, a timid cat with a name that means free or free man—a perfect match for a cat who spent her early life navigating the world on her own. She was found on the streets as a stray, extremely shy and frightened, but she is showing something new every day: the quiet courage of a cat beginning to search for a fur-ever home.

About Francesca

  • At shelter
  • Francesca is a skittish cat who has had minimal experience with humans.
  • She is a very calm and gentle cat who feels safest under a blanket or inside a cozy cubby.
  • Francesca is currently enrolled in EHS’s socialization program, where dedicated volunteers are working to help her become more comfortable around people.
  • Although she may hiss when approached or uncovered, she settles quickly and is learning to communicate when she feels uncomfortable.
  • With patience and a gentle approach, she allows pets on her head, cheeks, and chin by hand or a back-scratcher, and enjoys treats such as Churu.
  • Francesca is food-motivated and hand feeding her kibble is a good way to get her accustomed to people and hands.
  • She has also shown a growing interest in wand toys, occasionally swatting or nipping at them from beneath her blanket.
  • Francesca is still very shy and has a long way to go before feeling fully comfortable, but she is making encouraging progress through small steps.
  • Some skittish cats remain reserved, while others may express their trust and affection in a variety of ways.
  • Francesca is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, SNAP-tested for FIV/FeLV, and is up to date on core vaccinations.

Francesca’s Ideal Home

  • The ideal home for Francesca is a calm, patient environment, where she can settle at her own pace.
  • She seems to be warming up around other cats and interacting well with them, suggesting she may do well in a home where there’s another friendly feline.
  • A skittish cat like Francesca will benefit from a calm environment without small children.
  • Potential adopters should be prepared to commit the time, effort, and patience required to help Francesca settle into her new environment. EHS will provide post-adoption support to assist Francesca with a successful transition to her forever home.

If you’re ready to offer a gentle beginning to a cat who’s learning that safety can be a home, consider welcoming Francesca into your life. Your calm patience could be exactly what helps her take her next “free” step forward. So, apply to adopt Francesca today!
