Life with a Colt could be a wonderful ride!

Colt is a gorgeous grey guy who came to EHS from an overcrowded municipal shelter. He has spent his time with EHS both at the shelter and in foster, but we’ve found he’s happiest in a more spacious environment without other cats. This clever and playful boy is now ready to settle down and find his forever home with someone who has plenty of time and love to spare for him!

About Colt

  • In foster
  • Once he’s relaxed in a new space, Colt will show you his confident and friendly side. He is approachable and definitely not shy about asking for some attention if necessary!
  • Colt is very energetic and loves to play! He enjoys wand toys, toy mice, and ball toys that he can bat around with his paws.
  • A few feather toys have seen Colt’s “fierce” side when left unattended, so it would be best that once playtime is over, all feather and other less-durable toys be put away for their own safety.
  • Colt is very food-motivated and cat treats are a great way to get on his good side.
  • He is also VERY interested in human food (including the compost bin) and may try to help himself, so it is very important to keep a watchful eye while cooking (perhaps keep him out of the kitchen while preparing food) and definitely once it is on the plate!
  • His foster describes Colt as “a little naughty sometimes, but cute.” Although he isn’t a lap cat, Colt has become more tolerant of being picked up; he likes to spend time around his people and will often follow them around the home.
  • Colt is a sweet boy who loves pets and scratches by hand (Once that hand has been inspected first of course!), especially around the ears, cheeks, and chin. He will likely give you some purrs, leg rubs, or head-butts in return.
  • This handsome boy is okay with being brushed, but usually prefers it in short sessions.
  • Colt can be affectionate, but he also gets overstimulated sometimes. He will let you know when he’s had enough, so it is important to watch for his cues.
  • When he’s not relaxing in his cat tree, Colt loves to discover new places, even places you may not expect (like the space behind the washing machine), so you may want to block access to areas that you wish to remain undiscovered by this brave explorer!
  • Loud noises (like the vacuum cleaner) and sudden movements may make Colt nervous—just like most horses.
  • Colt takes daily medication to help him with his reactive tendencies.
  • Colt has been neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, SNAP-tested for FIV/FeLV, and is up to date on core vaccinations.

Colt’s Ideal Home

  • Colts are known to be bold and curious, with a tendency to explore. Colt the Cat is no exception to this, so having some areas in his home where he can give free rein to his “adventurous” side would be ideal.
  • Colt must be the only cat in the household and would do best in a home without young children. We’re uncertain if he would be okay around other pets.
  • He is not suitable for first-time adopters. Colt will need someone who is experienced in reading cat body language, recognizing signs of overstimulation, and be prepared to adjust to a confident cat who may bite or swat unexpectedly.
  • Colt takes his food and mealtimes very seriously! He seems to have triggers relating to food, which includes jumping on the kitchen table and countertops. His meals should be kept as consistent as possible to help avoid a “hangry” episode.
  • EHS will offer a short foster-to-adopt period before finalizing the adoption to assist Colt with successfully transitioning into a forever home. During this time, our skilled volunteers will offer support to the potential adopters as they get to know Colt and help ensure everyone settles in comfortably together.
