Phoenix’s past is a bit of a mystery. What we do know is that it has been traumatic. She is a blind, elderly Boxer who was bred multiple times. Despite her history Phoenix is full of energy and loves to cuddle, play and go for walks. Etobicoke Humane Society wants to ensure that the remainder of her life is the best it can be.

Unfortunately, given her past and her age, she has a number of medical issues that need to be treated in order to give her the quality of life that she deserves. Despite limited sight she is able to get around. When she is in a familiar place you’d never know she’s blind.  In addition to cataracts, she has keratitis and glaucoma, in both eyes. Due to Keratitis she is not a candidate for cataract surgery. But, we have started her on treatment for glaucoma to relieve the pressure in her eyes, which can cause discomfort and pain.

In addition to her eyes, we are treating a number of other health issues. Her immune system is compromised and we are currently treating her for ear and internal/urinary infections. Her X-rays revealed she has a severe case of spondolysis, which can be uncomfortable and debilitating.  She is on a special diet and pain medication to help make her comfortable. Despite her spinal issues she still loves to run, jump and play!

We expect that she will require on-going medical treatment for her eyes, spine, and compromised immune system. EHS is a 100% donation based charity that needs your help so we can continue to provide the health care she needs to ensure she is comfortable. Any little bit helps us care for her and other dogs with special needs in our care.
