Tom is an approximately two-year-old Husky/Lab mix who weighs about seventy pounds. He was found as a stray in a remote community in Northern Manitoba and arrived at EHS in late August. Tom made lots of friends at the shelter because he is a lovely, high energy dog who loves people and play, and also cuddling. Unfortunately, when Tom arrived with us, he showed us that he was afraid of other dogs, which could be because of his time as a stray fending for himself.
We believe that Tom has a lot of potential to be a great family pet and we have invested in training for him. Now he plays well with most dogs when supervised and can be comfortable being around other dogs, provided he has a proper introduction. He has also had some obedience training and is now a wonderful, well behaved dog. He is patiently waiting for his forever family and getting more and more exposure to other dogs every day!
Tom would thrive with an active owner who would spoil this sweet boy with walks and games to both physically and mentally stimulate him. He does sometimes test his boundaries and he can react when he is startled by another dog so he needs an experienced owner who is willing to work with him to reinforce what he has learned in his training. He can be vocal so we think he should go to a home with no shared walls and a fully fenced yard where he can run and play. We also think he would benefit from having someone at home more often than not. Because of his energy level, we think Tom needs a home with no other pets, cats or young children.
When restrictions are lifted, Tom can be visited at the training facility where he is staying, which is located in the Peterborough area and anyone lucky enough to adopt Tom will be able to take advantage of sessions with his trainer to make sure that they and Tom understand each other fully!
