Looking at the EHS website, you’ll see a section titled “Adopt a Special Dog.” Of course, all of our animals are special, but these dogs require someone with a little extra patience and experience to give them a second chance.
Often, pets don’t receive the training they need before they arrive in our care. We help those that need extra help, by having them work with professional behavioural trainers to deal with any unwanted behaviours they’ve exhibited. Sadly, many of these special dogs have been with us for several years now, and after having worked in an off-site training facility, are more than ready to find homes of their own.
Are we saying these dogs are perfect? No, no one is (although most pet owners would disagree). However, their quirks are under control, and with the proper experience, their new owners can have a long, happy life with these energetic dogs. Without further ado, meet the gang:
Tank is a Terrier Mix who came to us with some resource-guarding behaviour. When you give him a chance, he is a fierce sidekick, so we think he’d do best in a quiet home where he’s the sole attention-getter of a single companion.
Riggs is believed to be a Boxer Mix with classic Boxer traits of athleticism, strength, and youthful energy. He can get anxious in new environments and with strangers, so we think he’d do best with structure, an active lifestyle and a home with few visitors.
Max is a Cane Corso Mix who tends to mirror the energy of those around him, meaning he can get riled up. To minimize outbursts, he would probably do best in a calm home with a fit family with large dog experience where he can still get plenty of exercise.
Jack is a friendly, energetic Labrador Mix . He doesn’t know his strength and gets mouthy when excited. A home with a structured routine and a family dedicated to continuing his training and exercise is just what he needs.
Tascha is a German Shepherd with a gentle nature. She is well-behaved but can get anxious when she’s over-stimulated. She would do best in a calm home where she can be given structure and space while she builds her confidence.
Hurry is a Saluki Mix with typical sighthound behaviours. He is self-willed, has plenty of energy, and loves hunting and chasing. He does best when allowed to do his own thing without reprimands or intense affection. Ideally, he would go to a home familiar with the breed where he has a safe place for plenty of exercise.
