The Etobicoke Humane Society is all-volunteer run and operates solely on donations. Our policy allows us to schedule adoptions when our volunteer Adoption Coordinators are available throughout the week and on weekends. All of our available animals are listed under “adopt”. If you are interested in meeting one of our animals, read the steps below.

The Adoption Process:

1) Choose an animal

Our website lists all of our available animals whether you are seeking a dog or cat. Their name, age, breed and temperament can be found in their individual listing along with a photo.

2) Contact EHS

Once you have a pet in mind, you can connect with EHS via phone or email. Each listing has a specific email address to connect with the Dog or Cat Coordinator who oversees that animal. This allows you to connect directly with the Coordinator who knows the animal best.

If you are interested in adopting a cat, fill out the cat adoption form. 
If you are interested in adopting a dog, fill out the dog adoption form. 

3) Make an Appointment

Once you have contacted the coordinator, you will be asked to make an appointment to come in and see the animal. This will give you a better sense of their personality and if they are a good fit for your family and home.

4) Approval

Each adoption is required to go through an approval process. We want to ensure both you and the animal are a good fit for each other. A Coordinator will review the adoption guidelines with you in person and ask questions about your background, experience with pets and living situation. Dog adoptions require a home visit. If you live in a condo or apartment, written consent or a phone call to management is required for adoptions since most buildings do not permit or limit the number of animals allowed.

5) Final Steps

If your adoption application is accepted, you will sign our adoption contract, pay the non-refundable adoption fees and be on your way home with your new family member. Adoption fees help defray the cost of the animal care we provide at EHS.

Adoption fee for a cat: $175.00 (non-refundable)
Adoption fee for a dog: $400.00 (non-refundable)

You will be required to:

1. 1. • Provide photo identification
      • Provide written consent from management if you live in a building
      • Bring proof of vaccinations and spay/neuter if you have other pets
      • Fill out an adoption form
      • Read and sign the adoption form and pay adoption fees if approved
      • Purchase an animal license from Toronto Animal Services or your local animal control once the adoption is finalized
