He’s a lucky charm wrapped in a fur coat!
Meet Irish, the polydactyl orange cat. Irish was found wandering the streets of Hamilton and brought to an over-crowded municipal shelter before landing at EHS. He was chipped and neutered, so he must have had an owner at some point. While we’re unsure of his past, we think the luck of the Irish is with this handsome boy (and his extra toes) as he awaits his forever home.
About Irish
- At shelter
- Irish was quite scared and would hide when he first arrived, but he’s already settled into shelter life and started to show us his true personality. After only a short time, he started to seek out human attention, even crawling onto a human’s lap. That’s the spirit, boy!
- Volunteers describe Irish as “friendly” and “very sweet.”
- He accepts pets by hand, especially to his cheeks. He is unsure about being pet on the back and has given a gentle swat (no claws). No harm intended; he is just making his boundaries known.
- Volunteers report that Irish can look “a little sad” at times. Don’t worry, sweet boy, you will soon learn the magic that can happen when Irish eyes are smiling.
- He is a vocal cat who seems to have plenty to say. Is he recounting his tales of the Emerald Isle?
- Fun fact! Irish is a polydactyl cat, which means he has extra toes and looks like he is wearing little mittens. Polydactyl cats are also considered a symbol of luck.
- Irish has started to show his playful side, engaging in some fun feather wand toy time.
- Irish is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, SNAP-tested for FIV/FeLV, and is up to date on core vaccinations.

- He will benefit from a calm, quiet environment without young children.
- Irish’s compatibility with dogs is unknown.
