Hope for the Holidays 2025 ~ Hobbes' Story

🐾 It Takes a Holiday Village to Save a Life Like Hobbes'

Our Hope for the Holidays campaign is aiming to raise funds to help care for our shelter pets. This is our largest fundraiser of the year and helps to fund a significant portion of our annual budget.

As a small, independent shelter, we rely entirely on fundraising and donations to care for our cats and dogs while they wait to find their new forever families. Saving a life takes takes a village of selfless volunteers, devoted foster parents, and the reliable support of our donors. Our collective effort powers every single rescue and provides the long-term care that transforms lives.

This is the story of Hobbes, a testament to what our village can achieve together.

The Village Stepped In

Hobbes spent three years struggling on the streets of Etobicoke. By June 2025, he was so ill and debilitated that a vet recommended euthanasia if he couldn't get immediate, life-saving care.

That's when EHS stepped in.

Hobbes was in poor physical shape, tested positive for FIV+, and was suffering from severe periodontal disease—a painful infection that kept his tongue permanently out of his mouth. Saving Hobbes meant committing to months of expensive, complex care. It required a village and a village stepped in.

The Power of Second Chances

The EHS medical team provided treatment while a loving foster home was secured. His foster dad noted, "Hobbes is truly strong and trusting. He always seemed to know that we were doing everything for him."

The path to recovery involved two major dental surgeries, with one final procedure remaining. With the constant care powered by donor support, Hobbes reached profound milestones:

  • 💪He gained weight, started eating again, and opened up to his foster family.
  • 🐱In October, for the first time in memory, Hobbes put his tongue fully in his mouth. The next day, he groomed himself!

These are huge steps for a cat who came to us in agonizing pain. Hobbes’ survival story is made possible by every person who contributes to EHS.

Become a Cornerstone of Our Village

Hobbes has overcome so much, but his fight isn't over. And he's not alone. Countless other animals will need sustained, long-term medical care in the coming year.

A rescue isn't just one donation; it's months of medicine, surgeries, and constant support. This is why we need you to join our Village as a monthly donor.

By making a predictable, recurring monthly gift, you provide the reliable funding that allows us to commit to complex, life-saving cases like Hobbes'.

Your monthly gift is Hobbes' ongoing hope.
