Dogs who come into the shelter often experience stress as they adjust to their new environment. At EHS we try to alleviate this anxiety and create a comfortable and peaceful environment for the dogs. As much as we would like to welcome everyone, only visitors who are interested in potentially adopting a dog are permitted to visit the dogs. There are times that we may also have to limit the number of visits a dog may have in a day to reduce their stress.
Potential adopters are asked to first review the available dogs on below. Once you have read the description and criteria for each dog, you can either email the contact person listed under the description of each dog to make an appointment to meet with the dog, or you can come to the shelter during visiting hours 10:30-11:30 in the morning and 1:30-4:30 in the afternoon. It is recommended that you call (416) 249-6100 on the day you wish to visit to check that the dog will be available for viewing.
After you have met the dog, if you are interested and meet the required criteria you can complete the online Adoption Form. The dog’s adoption coordinator will then contact you to discuss the next steps. Please keep in mind that there are often numerous applicants for one dog. Please read the details on the adoption process here: Adoption Process
